N.A.P.P. supports the aims of the
Alma Ata Declaration that includes
the statement: "The people have the
right and duty to participate
individually and collectively in the
planning and implementation of their
health care."
N.A.P.P. objectives include the
following:
- To promote
self help as a process to enable
patients to develop a mutual
interest in their primary health
care at the surgery.
- To provide
effective grass roots forums in
the community for patients,
carers and health service staff
which will have benefits for
all.
- To maintain a
volunteer network of regional
officers and committee in their
efforts to bring to group
practices and clinics the
know-how in setting up local
Patient Participation Groups in
their locality.
- To recognise
the need for greater use of
resources and time to help the
areas of social deprivation
where it is harder for patients
to respond or react or become
involved in patient- centred
activities.
- To work
closely with the Department of
health in its Health of the
Nation strategy.
- To devise and
collate information packs which
are of mutual interest to
patient groups.
N.A.P.P. aims
include the following:
- To see a
patient participation group in
every GP practice and that each
group is based on the mutual
interests of the Primary Care
Team and Patients of the
practice.
- To promote
the role of Patient
Participation Groups as
participants in decision making
within the NHS.
- To maximise
the benefit of sharing common
interests while recognising the
individual nature of groups and
the differing structures in the
devolved countries of the United
Kingdom.
- N.A.P.P. has
regular contact with statutory
and voluntary agencies concerned
with health and in particular
with patients' views and
interests.
